Decalogue for respect of the Environment

  1. Do not abandon or bury trash. Take it to a collection service. In these areas there may not be containers and trash cans, so you will have to take your trash with you.
  2. Respect the roads. Shortcuts make the original path disappear. Do not wade through water, it can be very dangerous.
  3. Close the gates, gates, bars, cabin doors, etc., that you are in the field to prevent livestock or other animals from entering or leaving.
  4. Never light a fire. Keep in mind that a lit cigarette butt can have catastrophic consequences in a natural area. Take food already prepared.
  5. Dogs must be on a leash so that they do not disturb or frighten livestock or free animals.
  6. Respect and take care of fountains, rivers and other water courses. Do not pour any type of liquid into them.
  7. Avoid noise emissions within the natural environment, be it any type of speaker or megaphone. This is especially important in the presence of animals, such as cows. These animals may not be accustomed to human presence. Noise pollution is something very serious.
  8. Never pluck flowers or branches, so we will all enjoy them.
  9. Do not camp freely. Respect and use camping sites.
  10. In short, respect nature: Don’t pull up plants; do not harm animals; do not pollute rivers or springs; don’t litter; walk along the paths and paths already laid out; leave everything the same or better than you found it

Golf

La Dehesa Montenmedio, located just 5 km from the urban center of Vejer, has a unique golf course different from all Spanish courses (6,260 meters, 18 holes and par 72). Not a single construction affects its fairways and greens, it is surrounded by forests of olive trees, cork oaks, and pines, it offers impressive views over the Atlantic, over white towns such as Vejer de la Frontera, Benalup, Medina and also over the African coast of Tangier and Espartel. Playing its 18 holes is always fun and surprising: deer, rabbits, ducks and other animals accompany the player along their gentle course.

In addition, the Montenmedio Golf School offers golf courses aimed at both beginners who want to learn to play and more experienced players looking to improve their game. There are different courses designed specifically for each level, with just the right amount of theory and practice depending on the player or the group’s prior knowledge and abilities.

Surf

“El Palmar” beach, located just 12 km from the urban center of Vejer, is, due to its unique characteristics, one of the favorites of surf lovers.

Expert surfers usually come to practice this sport between the months of October and April, as this is when the waves reach the highest heights. For beginners or intermediate level, the ideal conditions occur during the months of May to September. However, you can surf all year round depending on the easterly wind, which often favors the conditions for catching waves.

Numerous schools are located along the road on the coastal front of this beach. They teach courses and rent tables.

Ornithological tourism

Geographically, the Trafalgar Coast, of which Vejer is a part, has a particular strategic position as it acts as a bridge in bird movements between two continents, the European and the African, and between two seas, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean. This means that on its coasts we find a high flow of migratory species, among which the white stork, the black kite, the European honey buzzard and the European short-toed snake stand out due to the greater spectacular nature of their passage.

Of the 524 species described in the publication Birds in Europe (BirdLife 2004), approximately 43%, some 226 birds are observed on a more or less regular basis on the Trafalgar Coast, to which must be added other species that are sporadic, rare or very rare.

This ornithological wealth is enhanced thanks to the high diversity of landscapes and ecosystems represented in the territory.

All these particularities make, in short, the Trafalgar Coast a space for enjoying bird watching and also its landscapes and culture.

Paragliding

If flying is one of your dreams, you cannot miss this activity. Living this unique experience will make you discover Vejer and its surroundings in a different way: “from a bird’s eye view”. You will enjoy truly surprising panoramic views of the town, the La Breña Natural Park and the Atlantic Ocean.

To practice this sport in Vejer, a fundamental requirement is that the wind blows from the west.

It is on those days when it is common to see lovers of this sport in action, filling the old sky with color.
