Vejer Carnival

It is one of the most popular and attractive festivals, recovering its past splendor and regaining greater prestige over time.
In the festive calendar of Vejer, the carnival is our first date. It begins with the group competition at the San Francisco Municipal Theater. From there, and for a week, the party moves to the streets, where adults and children enjoy the cheerful carnival songs.
Another of the featured activities is the Children’s Contest and the costume party.
The Carnival ends with the great parade of humor and the burning of the Carnival Whistle.
Circuito Hípico del Sol / Sunshine Tour
FEBRUARY-MARCH
With a privileged location, just 5 km from the town center of Vejer de la Frontera, Dehesa Montenmedio becomes the ideal place for the celebration of this high-level sporting event, which attracts the most prestigious riders in the world and lovers of the equestrian world.
It is an international equestrian competition in the discipline of show jumping, held every year during the winter months.

It has its origins in the ancient Andalusian livestock fairs and today this fair remains linked to this tradition with the parallel celebration of the Morphological Contest of “Cattle and Horses”, which has obtained wide support in the province, becoming the first livestock fair in Andalusia.
The Vejer Spring Fair is known as the first Fair in Spain. It is celebrated two weeks after Easter, from Wednesday to Sunday, and is located in the “La Noria” Fairground, situated in the new part of Vejer.
During these days a wide program of activities takes place, among which we highlight: Children’s Parade (Thursday), regional dance contests, Women’s Day (Friday), horseback riding, Sports Competitions, Concerts… fun and a good atmosphere guaranteed.
Pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Olive

It is celebrated in remembrance of the proclamation of the Virgin of the Olive as Patroness of Vejer by His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, on May 7th, 1885.
On this day, the people of Vejer and other devotees from neighboring towns travel to the hermitage to experience a day in the countryside filled with fraternity and togetherness.
The day begins with a solemn mass, celebrated with the priests of the region. The culminating moment of this day arrives when the Image of Our Lady of the Olive is carried in procession through the gardens of her hermitage.
Vejer Patios Week
MID-MAY
With the aim of showcasing the beauty of Vejer’s patios, which reach their peak splendor in spring, the Municipal Delegation of Culture organizes the “Vejer Patios Week”, which includes the Patios, Facades and Entrance Halls Competition.
This event is held in mid-May, and various activities are organized around it, turning the patios into the stage for them. Among them we highlight: puppet theater, poetry readings, performances, guided tours.
Bonfire of San Juan
JUNE 23RD
This festival is celebrated on the eve of San Juan, coinciding with the summer solstice, preserving great roots and tradition in Vejer.
The clubs and associations make dolls full of originality called “Juanillos”, which are presented to a Contest organized by the City Council. Subsequently, after the prizes are awarded, they are burned in a bonfire.
The festival ends in the Plaza de España with the release of the “toro de fuego” (pyrotechnic device) and with a popular open-air dance.
Night of Candles
END OF JUNE
Este es, sin duda, uno de los eventos más singulares de los que se celebran a lo largo del año en Vejer.
Bajo la luz de la luna, miles de velas colocadas en las calles y balcones reflejan una luz especial sobre las fachadas de las casas y el Recinto Amurallado del pueblo ofreciendo un espectáculo único para los asistentes.
El recorrido establecido es de una solo dirección y discurre por las calles del casco histórico de la localidad.
El broche final lo pone un concierto de música clásica en la Plaza de España, iluminada igualmente para la ocasión únicamente con velas.
Jazz Vejer

Jazz Vejer is an intimate festival that shuns overcrowding, where quality is more important than quantity and where the experience is above all else.
A festival where music and the surroundings are on the same level and enrich each other. Where everything is at hand, the concerts, the restaurants, the hotels… All this contributes to a special, magical, family atmosphere..
Festival in honor of Our Lady of the Olive
FROM AUGUST 10TH TO 24TH
In the first half of the last century, the custom was adopted of bringing Our Lady of the Olive in pilgrimage from her hermitage to the town on August 10th and taking her back on the 24th.
During these 14 days, acts of worship and veneration were held in honor of her Image in the Parish Church of the Divine Savior.
The most important day was August 15th, the day on which the Patron Saint processed through the streets of Vejer.
This tradition is still maintained intact every August. Vejer is transformed to receive its Patron Saint and pay homage to her.
From August 10th to 14th, liturgical events are held, among which we highlight the processional departure of the Patron Saint through the streets of Vejer on August 15th.
At the same time, the City Council organizes a wide program of cultural activities, among which the celebration of the Flamenco Night in the incomparable setting of the Walls of La Segur stands out, a festival declared of “National Tourist Interest of Andalusia.”
Vejer Hill Climb
OCTOBER
Also known as the Vejer Rally Hill Climb, it is one of the oldest car competitions in Cádiz, bringing together a large number of motorsport enthusiasts, drivers, and sports cars from across the province and Andalusia, making Vejer de la Frontera the center of attention in the automotive world and a sporting benchmark at the Andalusian level.
This is one of the scoring events for the Andalusian Mountain Championship and is organized by the Andalusian Automobile Federation.
International Day of Lomo en Manteca
OCTOBER
This culinary event, promoted by butcher Francisco Melero and tourism advisor Benjamín Colsa, is the perfect excuse to showcase to the world one of the great delicacies of the gastronomy of the province of Cádiz, which goes beyond being a breakfast dish.
It is a day in which the traditional recipe will be cooked in different ways and in which you can also taste the different sausages and cured meats that the butchers of Vejer will offer to try at the outdoor stands that will be located at the Walls of La Segur.
Living Nativity Scene
DECEMBER
More than 200 participants give shape to this living Nativity scene through the streets of the historic artistic center of Vejer, transformed into Judea, among which are children, young people and monitors belonging to the Scout Group Edén 309, organizers of this event.
The inauguration and opening of the Living Nativity Scene begins in the Plazuela with the representation of the scene of Jesus and Mary on a donkey looking for lodging.
The tour continues with an established itinerary duly signposted, to avoid crowds in certain scenes and to make it easier for visitors to see it calmly and enjoy the staging.
