Gastronomy has undoubtedly become one of the most important distinguishing features of Vejer de la Frontera’s tourist offer. It stands out for its markedly popular character and its parallels with Andalusian cuisine (mainly in the pastries).

The restaurants and bars of Vejer and its municipal district offer a “high quality” cuisine, which will not leave the most demanding palates indifferent. If there is one thing that characterises Vejeria’s cuisine, it is its variety and quality, highly marked by the production of rich vegetables, vegetables, fruit and legumes from its fertile orchards.

All this without forgetting the seasonal gastronomy based on wild products such as tagarninas, artichokes and snails harvested in the municipality.

The rich fish and seafood from our Atlantic coastline plays a special role. Famous are the seafood rice dishes and fried fish that can be tasted in the restaurants and bars of our beach “El Palmar”, just a few metres from the sea.

It is important to highlight the organic “retinto” meat (native breed of beef), and the highly appreciated and tasty “Ternera de la Janda”, as well as the pork products, which are produced in a traditional way in the butcher’s shops of Vejer, such as lomo de manteca, black pudding, chorizos, sausages, sausages and “morcones”.

Finally, we must not forget our traditional confectionery, including the famous “camiones”, “tortas vejeriegas” and, during Lent, “pan duro” and “roscos”, as well as Arab sweets and other specialities such as “rosquitos de canela y limón” and “minipestiños”.

The local wines deserve special mention. In the Vejer countryside there are three Bodegas offering signature and organic wines (one of them is also an oil mill) and in the bars and restaurants you will find an exquisite selection of wines.

One of the surprises that the town of Vejer offers is the large number of bars and restaurants hidden in the most unique corners, as well as the beautiful and well-kept terraces that are installed in the street when the good weather arrives, decorated with pots of flowers as if it were an open courtyard. Strolling, Tapas, Eating… Savouring Vejer is an unforgettable experience. The fusion between the architectural environment of the town and the good cuisine make Vejer today a gastronomic reference point.
