Undoubtedly, gastronomy has become one of the emblems of the tourist offer in Vejer de la Frontera. It stands out due to it noticeable popular nature, and its parallelism with Andalusi Arabic food (especially in desserts).

Under the gastronomic motto ‘Vejer, saboréalo’ (in English, ‘Taste Vejer!’), the restaurants and bars of Vejer and its surrounding offer a high-quality cuisine, which will delight the most demanding palates. The cuisine of Vejer is clearly characterized by its variety and quality, highly marked by its excellent production of vegetables, fruit, and legumes. We cannot forget, however, the seasonal gastronomy, based on wild products, such as Spanish oyster thistles, artichokes, and snails, collected in the municipal area.

We should highlight the special place of fish and shellfish, obtained in our Atlantic coasts. Our seafood rice (arroz marinero) and fried fish (pescaíto frito) are famous, and can be tasted in the restaurants and bars of El Palmar beach, near the sea.

It is important to remark the ecological Retinto meats (local cattle breed), really known and tasty, as well as pork products, such as loin in lard, morcillas (black puddings), chorizos (spicy sausages), longanizas (another type of sausages), and morcón (large blood sausage), all of them artisanally produced in the butchers’.

Finally, we cannot forget our artisanal desserts, especially the well-known ‘camiones’ (a type of mille-feuille), the Vejer tortas, and during Lent the ‘pan duro’ and ‘roscos’ (Pastelería La Exquisita), as well as the Arabic sweets and other specialities such as cinnamon and lemon ‘rosquitos’, and ‘minipestiños’ (Xauen Pastelería Andalusí).

Products of special mention are the regional wines. In Vejer, there is a Winery that offers wines from the region: Fino Marisquero, Clarito, Gold Moscatel, etc. You can find an exquisite selection of wines in our bars and restaurants.

One of the most surprising elements of Vejer is the enormous amount of bars and restaurants, located in every nook and cranny, together with the well-cared, beautiful terraces in the streets, favoured by nice weather and decorated with flower pots like in an open patio. Strolling, eating, tapeo… Tasting Vejer is an unforgettable experience. The fusion between the architectonic environment of the town and the high-quality meals makes Vejer a gastronomic reference.
